Every time I reboot, are power my system on, when I get to my desk top I get a pop up window, that says window installer and it has a cancle button next to it  .

But if I don't cancle in time it will say, Norton antivirus Can't repair are some thing like that
and tells me to reinstall Norton. I tried reinstalling from scratch, but when I reboot I
get same error. I go and check to see if Norton is up to dated. and it only happens when getting it to windows from a power up are reboot.

If any body has any info on this it would be a great help  . It does not hurt performance are nothing. It's just aggravating. :beat: Thanks in advance

Hummmmmmmmm I think it sounds like your registry might be damaged? have you tried going to run and type msconfig and remove some startup programs to see if that helps? if not try scanning your HDD for errors see if that works? also if your trying to install norton it does mess up sometimes and its hard to remove the norton antvirus site has a uninstaller utility depending on what verison your antivirus program is. I had this program on a computer I was programing for someone so I gave up on norton it wouldnt install what so ever so I got PC Cillin good program aswell.

This is a Windows Installer Autorepair "feature." It can be profoundly irritating. What you need to do is turn off Autorepair in Windows installer. I've been poking around for how to do that, and I haven't quite found it yet, but that should you in the right path.

Hi cwa4me, sorry you're having annoyances with your Norton.

AVG Anit-Virus is a great little program you can install if you just want to bail on Norton all together. You can download the latest version here (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/Get+AVG+FREE/lng/us/tpl/v5) . And, under the free DL link at the bottom of the page are guides to how to use it, etc.

I have installed it on many personal and business machines and never once have had a problem. It auto-updates it's definitions and also auto-scans on a regular basis according to pre-determined times that you tell it. When it has caught bugs, it has told me the exact path to the actual file(s) that are infected so I can go investigate more thoroughly, also it will automatically tke those infected files out and quaratine them for you.

These AVG features are not new or different from other popular programs, I think that AVG is just stripped down to the bare essentials, no extra fillers or preservatives. No resource hogging.
