What is the difference like I dont know what to buy I just got the - dvd blanks and I used DVD decrypter to burn a movie and before it worked on the + blanks and before it burnt with the - blanks it said something about it is the wrong format. So anyway what is the difference between the - and + so I guess I should of got the + blanks instead of the - blanks..... :help:

The only difference I know of is the format. Most newer burners will burn on both + & -. But some older even new players will only play one format either = or -. Have to be careful when buying a player to be sure it will play both or the format you are burning on. If you are buying a older burner it pays to go to manufactures website and double check the formats it handles before you buy.

I've always used this site: Link. (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers)
to find out which players are compatible with which formats.
I use Ritek Ridata -R disks and have not found anything that they don't work on. +R's were giving me problems or not working at all on some older equipment that I have.

According to HP site your burner handles both - and + formats reading and writing so have no idea why certain discs would not work. Unless it had something to do with software you were using to copy. Hope you get it figured out.

I have had a lot of success with dvdSanta, Link (http://www.dvdsanta.com-http.com/) ,it converts different files to DVD format and also will reduce the size of large files to fit one disk. You can also blend seperate files into one DVD.

I also have a DVD player which will play DIVX files in their own format, so no conversion is required if you don't want to bother and you can just burn the files to a regular CD and play them. You have to purchase a DVD player that has the DIVX logo to do this though!!

Hope this helps Kev! :thumb:

Also be aware Kev that there are some DVD players which won't accept both - and + R disks. :beat:

Checked with folks here at the forum before posting this link. Just remember this program is only for backup of your owned files.
