I had recently returned my Abit AI7 to Newegg, since the board wasnt stable at all for me (think it was a DUD!), and I got a used DFI LanParty Ultra board and a Barton 2600+ to mess around with..

The board is nice!, I previously had the DFI Lan Party 875P board and it was also great..so I knew it comes with many many options.
Anyways the chip ended up being unlocked, so its running 200x11 (instead of 166x11.5) on 1.65v.
Prime95 passes overnight torture test...(the high heat one) and only hits about 48'c..not bad for 1 system fan and 1 80mm fan on the volcano9 heatsink.
Also got some mismatched XSM3200c2 sticks (1 is old and black spreader, one is newer and silver spreader) but they both run 200 @ 2-3-3-6 w/2.64v

I havent tried running them any higher..
Since its going to be my server, I figured Id need a decent vid card, so I 'threw' in a 9600XT, at defaults is hit 13k+ in 3dMark2001se...not bad I guess for a server.!

I hadnt noticed, but the mem was undervolted at 2.48v....set as auto in BIOS.

set to 2.7v in bios....2.58 in windows and swapped the Tornado9 out for an SLK800 with the same fan.
temps went down (42'c), mem settings are 2-2-2-6 now..@ 200fsb
OC'd the 9600xt a bit to 520x315 and hit 14k

not bad..thanks!

Sweet! Nice OC and decent mem timings for being a mis-match!

Well since we're talking about AMD Barton's, I thought I'd throw a small question in here. I have a 2500+ Barton. And the first time I got it working properly(I clocked it wrong as soon as I got it) I got a correct setting at 400 mghz FSB. It was at 3200+ 2.2 Ghz. But, I didn't mess w/voltage, and it had absolutely zero temperature change. All I did was change the bus. I have a sinking feeling that it wasn't a true overclock. I'm pretty sure that when you add 400 Mghz there should be some temperature change. I'm not sure, and I was just looking for feedback. Maybe it was a good OC, maybe not. Thanks again.

if it was an unlocked chip...you mihgt get away with no temp increase if its a really good chip.
best bet is to run Prime95 on it for about 10 hrs to see if it passes without an error..if it does, youve got a great chip, if it doesnt , you ll have to add vcore to make it stable..more vcore = more heat..

plus, your ram will also have to be able to run 400mhz as well..

I agree with dbwillis, my 2500+ is sitting at 203fsb right now with default voltage and no temp increase. I've seen the same in my P4's also...adding voltage is where the temp problems come in...;) Nice OC!! :)

Does anyone know if you can still buy the unlocked Bartons, and which ones to look out for? :)

I did run prime and such, no errors came back there. BTW I have a DFI nForce II Ultra 400 Infinity mobo. Some frinds say it's a good mobo for OCing. I suppose hooray for a good OC. This is my first time w/a good computer to do things with. So I guess it's all good. Thanks guys!
