cool as in temps, not looks. All the cases I`ve been buying lately have the crappiest air flow....what are some good cases that cool better then they look??

Well, if you have the cash I would go with the Silverstone Temjin 6. It looks great and is getting some awesome reviews for cooling performance. This is the cheapest I've found so far.

That looks pretty trick with that wind tunnel that connects the front and rear fan.

I wonder how this heat pipe would work in that tunnel, the case flips the MB over so the CPU is on the bottom, might put this right in that tunnel thing in the case between the 120mm fans and work.

Looks a little tall so it might interfere with that tunnel, but if it fits I would go for it.

My "thermal design" appreciated cases:
Lian Li BTX Series
CoolerMaster Stacker
Addtronics 6890 / 7890A
SuperMicro SC-750
Some other server cases from MaCase

In my opinion the TJ06 is a good choice. I've had mine for about two months now, and have nothing but praise for it. My system temps are around 27 C most of the time and never go above 28 C. As for the Sonic Tower, Forgotten_Ronin is right, the hight and width of the Sonic Tower make to tight a fit for the wind tunnel to fit right in the case. I'm using a X2 4800+ with a Thermalright XP-90c and AS5 and getting temps at idle around 36 C and at load 45 C.

Nice!! Do you think a XP 120 would fit??
And did you have to use an extender for the MB main plug?

I need to get myself a new case myself soon I need better cooling I was thinking on goin wif SilverStone cases I heard there quiet and effective is that true so in simple term I heard the cooling is good or real good I dunno which 1 hehe.

I think you may have to use an extender but it really depends on the PSU and board layout. The more I look at the case, the closer I get to pulling the trigger and picking one up...extender be damned!

The answer is yes to both of your question, Rukee. With the Xp-120, make sure it fits your mobo also, the XP-120 is one big boy. When using the wind tunnel you can get the XP-120 and a 120x25mm fan to fit, however a 120x38mm fan will not fit. I have extensions for both my 24-pin connector and the P4 4 pin connector.

Hi Kev_Dawg
I can't speak for the other Silverstone cases, but the fans that come with the TJ06 are 1700 rpm and are rated around 21 db. The 80mm fan that comes with the TJ06 is also very quiet. I have taken the Silverstone 120mm fans that came with my case out and installed some powerful 120mm fan made by Enermax, so the noise from my case is alittle louder, but not so loud that I can't tolerate it.

I love my Temjin6. Replaced the stock 120s with 2 of silverstones 100+ cfm 120s becasue I dont really care about noise, and they come with a controller anyhow. Also cut a 120mm blowhole in the side over the vid card, which helped systems temsps quite a bit.

I just made the order for the case and an XP-120 with a 120mm fan. If my OCZ Powerstream 520 won`t reach, I may try to use an Enermax EG465-P I have here. It`s only a 20 pin connecter, but with low voltage memory, I`ll never be moving the memory voltage jumper to the 4v spot.

Excellent, keep us informed of your progress and get some pics. According to the manufacturer's website, your power connection should be at least 550mm to reach most boards. Good Luck

Well, I got the case and allthough it looks leet as heck, my temps are fer crap. :(
Ten degrees warmer then in a RaidMax Gamer case with the factory heat sink. I`m at the same clocks and voltages, just changed cases and to the XP-120 heat pipe. My temps were in the mid 50s under full load, now they are in the 60s just doing a quick defrag. :(
The XP-120 fit but I had to trim some of the tunnel down just to get it to fit right, no fan on the heat pipe right now as it looks like with the fans on each side of the tunnel should do the job. The heat pips is really warm to the touch. If I put the 120mm fan on the xp120, I`ll have to trim more off the tunnel.
Also the sound card thing for the DFI is hitting the back 120mm case fan and it bending the MB slightly. On a possitive note, the OCZ Powerstream 520 did fit with no adapter or extender.

Rukee, unless you force the air 'through' the xp120 its not going to work to well I think. Try a quick experiment. Make a flap of some kind to force the air flowing over the HS to go through the HS. That should make a huge difference.

Those are the XFX 7800 cards, I think...you can see the DFI SLI bridge between the two cards.
I tryed to duct the air thru the heat pipe, a CD fits the tunnel almost perfect. It dropped the temp on the core a few degrees, but not as much as I would like to see. I just added the 120mm fan to the heat pipe and am retesting now. I didn`t mount it dirrectly centered, I have it off set down so I don`t have to trim the tunnel anymore. Funny, buy a Thermaltake heat pipe, and a Thermaltake fan doesn`t fit the clips they give you.

In my opinion buy a nice Lian-Li and mod the hell out of it. I modded mine and cut out the fan grills on the side on the back and cut a hole to place a 120mm Panaflo fan on the top.

Xp120 is a Thermalright not Thermaltake. :)

I think it's just going to take some better fans than the stock Silverstone ones.

with a thermaltake 120mm fan on the heat pipe and the tunnel still on the CPU temps are down under 50 at around 46-49 under full load, but the chipset and PWM are over 60.

Above the tunnel? I wonder what temps you would get if you just took it out?
Rukee
08-10-2005, 06:40 PM
what`s above the tunnel? The CPU 120mm fan? No, it`s inside the tunnel mounted on the heat pipe just mounted lower then center on it so I didn`t have to trim anymore on the tunnel. I might try without the tunnel later, right now I have it all wrapped up and folding for the night.

Rukee, you might still want to use a fan on the heatsink.

Ditto. Remove that wind tunnel and add a fan to the xp120 and see if it works any better.
The tunnel is cool n all but its meant for their special cooler that fits in the tunnel.

The 120mm fan IS on the heat pipe, I just removed the tunnel and am retesting. Ambiants are low right now, so it`ll take till this afternoon to see what the temps are going to do.

Temps did drop a bit for the Chipset and PWM by removing the tunnel.

no, I switeched the one in the window out for a panaflow as well as the one I have on my ram.... I had to keep the silenx at the top as the panasonic was to deep to fit.
