Fellas,
This is my first venture into a rig of size mentioned below:
- Dual-Opterons 246 on an Asus K8N-DL board
- 2xSATA 80Gb HDD
- PowerColor X850 Pro (ATI Radeon-based) graphics card
I am looking for advise on how to best optimise the machine for Photoshop, 3D MAX/Maya, Flash and software programming purposes (Java).
- How should I partition the drives?
- Should I install the OS on one and Program Files on another?
- Should I, instead, buy a smaller 10 GB drive just for OS and use one of the 80Gb drives for Program Files while leaving the second drive as scratch disk for Photoshop? Can 3D application like 3D MAX/Maya and Flash also make healthy use on this second empty drive for caching purposes (i dunno!?) as Photoshop does using the Scratch Disk functionaliy?
Wud gr8ly appreciate all advise...thx in anticipation!
cheers!
P.S.: I had installed XP just to check whether all my nuts'n'bolts fit in as they shld and that all is workin well...I wish to now erase everything (incl. OS) and start afresh...what is the best way to erase all?
