In XP, when you click on START, do you ever get just an empty black box that pops up? And then when you run your mouse around inside that empty area, then the buttons (My Documents, All Programs, etc.) start to appear as though they were a "mouse-over" event in xhtml for example? :o
It's happenned to me from time to time (like right now), like maybe every two or three months this little annoyance will pop up...
A reboot resolves it, and when it is occuring it is not disfunctional to any other OS activities - just kind of annoying.
Ever happen to any of you, if so do you know why?

Nope. Not happened to me. I have to reboot once or twice a week due to IE being such a pig on resources so maybe I am not leaving mine on long enough to see the same problem.
Ever look at what your resources are like when this happens? I wonder if it is too loaded up and it is just telling you to reboot.
Nope, never happend to me either. Got a screenie of it, maybe we can help narrow it down, or better yet, we can tease you about it. :D

No, not in Windows XP, but back in the old days, when I was using Windows for Workgroups 3.11 that had, as you may know, very limited resources, things like that happened quite frequenctly when resource levels became too low, like less than 10%. So I agree with Snafu, that it is probably a resource shortage. How long after your last reboot does it happen most of the time?

My machine runs 24/7 (like Joe's I believe since he is folding too :D ) and I have never experienced this. I have gone week's without a reboot sometimes.
I do tend to agree about resource issues, mine will have a slow refresh of the Dektop Icons from time to time, when the memory is "full", although I have never specifically looked at the resource allocation at that moment.
Do you have the folding client set to "idle" priority Joe? Perhaps its set to.....oh I can't remember the other choice at the moment.

Allrightly then, good to know one other person had something similar anyway. I'll take a look at resources next time it happens. I noticed this behavior after a nice long session of WoW late last night/this a.m.
I changed my desktop color a few minutes ago and when I hit APPLY, it put the new color on and this problem went away too.
Thanks guys.
