The Shiba’s are aloof and can be stubborn at times, they do seem to like people for the most part, but have a tendency to bark at strangers then settle down quickly once the threat has been analyzed. I never had a problem with aggressive behavior towards people. Now other animals have a tendency to get chased if the opportunity presents its self, lets just say, he’s on the leash whenever he’s out of the back yard. I might also add, they are very clean, but don’t like water or baths, a good brushing every couple of days keeps them in tiptop shape.
Here’s a couple of links for ya.

Well I think Drama is cute as well but, I am a little biased :D . I have a buddy in Belgium that breeds Working German Shepherds :thumb: . He shipped her to me for free we co-own her. All I have to do is care for her as if she were my own and Train her. If I decide to sell he get first choice to buy his half and vice-versa. Also if I decide to beed her we split the expence and pups. All in all I think it is an excellent deal. Her Father Zidane Haus Sevens placed sixth at the WUSV(World Championships). He Placed high in Trial in the Protection Phase  and was 1 of only 4 dogs this year to V rate in Protection. Her GrandFather on the Mother's Side Xino Roys Hoeve was also at the WUSV this year. He also tyed for High in Protection and V rated Protection :fire: . My Buddy who I co-own her with was the coach for the Belgium Team this year. They took first place at the WUSV  Hopefully he will be visiting soon to help my dogs along. :D
Nope Zeke doesn't like sharing. He doesn't mind sharing me but if she picks up one of his toys :hide: . But what else do you expect for a Malinois ;)

Massive is the word. :yikes:
Bullmastiff Size--Dogs, 25 to 27 inches at the withers, and 110 to 130 pounds weight. Bitches, 24 to 26 inches at the withers, and 100 to 120 pounds weight.

He's 4 now. Matured too (more sure of himself).
Yeah mastiff is the word. He's a very svelt 135lbs. He was up to 149lbs and looking good as his dad was 160lbs (more mastiff than bulldog). But his acl's were going so we dropped his weight down and two knee surgeries. Never measure his height but his head comes to my waist. He is a blast to wrestle with and then he goes into teh mad puppy mode and runs all over  (have to watch your knees when he runs by).

Love the link to AKC. The Malinois' are about the same height as Bullmastiffs (23-27"). From the sounds of it they are nearly if not the same weight. Far more energetic than my bully though - I swear they must have bred some hound into these guys

Yep these guys are tall. Not heavy though but the weight does very anywhere from 50-90lbs. They are known for being very agile and fast and full of energy. Most people would despise this dog if it were in a Pet home. They stay in overdrive no off switch with these fellows. This is truly a working breed for the most part. Either find them something to do are they will find something to do and you probably won't like it. My boy Zeke was imported from Holland. His dad is an AKC registered Malinois and his mom is a cross between a Malinois and a Groenendael (still pure Belgian Shepherd in those parts) :) Did I mention he is overclocked :yikes: :rotflmao: . Seriously though most people don't like him. 1.) He is ugly and no papers (mut) 2) Way to much energy and serious about working. He would drive most people nuts.

Since their not as angulated as the Shepherd, do they have as many problems with their joints? I know the major reason for shepherd's hip displasure is in-breeding but some still comes with the american Shepherd's from US breeders breeding for more and more angulation.

No they don't have close to as many joint problems. This is one of the major reasons Police Departments are using Mals instead of Shepherd. When they pay $10,000-$12,000 for a dog they want to get as much of a work life out of them as possible. One of the reasons I have choosen Mals are that it is far more easier to find one that will work. The percentage of pups out of a litter that will work is about double that of a shepherd of a comparable working line breeding. I agree most of the Dyslpasya problems or from the Showlines breeding for what I think is over angulation  .
Snafu
11-08-2004, 06:28 AM
Sometimes the breeders for show are not looking out for the breed. Other problems result. The dangerous part is that they can still register the dog and breed it further making the breed less stable.
So when do you find the time to overclock you computer when you have a dog that's overclocked? . Is that a Pic of you in the red blind with Zeke getting ready to take you down?

Sorry, no pics because I'm at school, and the pets are at home, about 750 miles away.
We have 1 dog, she's mostly Black Lab, but has some Springer Spaniel and Beagle in her. She's nearly 11 years old, and we've had her since she was 8 months old.
2 cats, one's quite old, the other a few years younger. The younger one was a stray, and we came home one Thanksgiving from dinner at my grandparents' house, and he was just sitting there in out driveway, a young kitten, quite scrawny, as if he was waiting for us to get home. We ended up taking him in.
I have a couple fish, a Blue Gourami, and a Black Convict, both of which are getting quite large. Naturally, they're not in a tank together, as the Black Convict would kill the Blue Gourami.
And my sisters have some goldfish.
The unfortunate part is that I'm allergic to cats. Thankfully there's medicine to help keep the reaction at bay.

Brewer
Brewer is about as cool as cats come. Named after the fact that the guys we got him from let him lap up small amounts of beer when he was just a youngin'. We rescued him from them. But he brought that good timin' attitude with him.
http://home.comcast.net/~joehorning/Brewer.jpg
Brewer & Shep
Shep is an affection whore. He loves to be loved every possible moment. If we pet the cat, or even talk "animal talk" to the cat (you know: "aaaw, is that Mr. Meow? Is that Mr. Meow I hear? Yes, aaaww Mr. Meow wants some lovin'..."), Shep goes wild and will butt his wet nose in right between us and the cat. He even gets squirrelly when my girls feed their fish! He's a good boy though, we love him too.

Ok here's one of Charlotte we inherited her at Christmas from our Son as she kept digging out and another of our old German Shepherd Bonnie. Charlotte and Bonnie get along well except at feeding time because Bonnie thinks "what's yours is mine and what's mine is my own" so we have to separate them at feed time.
I haven't got a good one of our cat (that we inherited from our Daughter) but I cant put the dogs and the cat on the same page otherwise the dogs will chase the cat and mess up your desktop lol.

Lovely dogs, kind of like the laid back position Charlotte adopts. My Tox is always resting in that same postion, first dog I have that does that. So Tox is also called froggie when I tease him..lol

I know exactly what you mean. Taking her for walks is always a riot because people keep calling her a miniature husky or some other curly tailed breed. She came from Koma-Inu, the breeder who won best in breed at Westminster this year. http://www.koma-inu.com/

Both of mine are papered but not of show quality. Red, the older one, who is almost 10 years old, we got from a breeder in England and is quite a bit bigger then yours. At first I thought he might actually be a Hokkaido, which is in between the Shiba and the Akita.
Romeo, the younger one was a pet store puppy, very slim, and his coat hasn’t filled out yet. I think it has something to do with the climate down here in Arizona.
They are definitely Shiba’s, their attitude is spot on for the breed.

Here is my best bud Zackery. He just died last week. He'd have been 14 in June :(
His friends he loved. His fellest earthly foes--
Cats--I believe he did but feign to hate.
My hand will miss the insinuated nose,
Mine eyes that tail that wagged contempt at Fate.

I feel for your loss dracho, I had 'Cha' for 14 years & had to have her put down when the arthritis injections stopped working.
She raised two kittens & a spanial pup in her time.
Although that spanial is an old dog herself now.

Here is a slide show on my website of Linux the cat. We named him Linux because of his affliction with computer parts. I will add other animals as I find pictures. We are not picture takes, but I managed to get a bunch while we had Linux. We had to get rid of him because he was stinking up the house. Can't get evicted because of the kitty, you know. Now I own a house, so I really don't want it smelling like animals. Maybe a dog will be next. We'll see.
