My machine is super stable at 200x11 with memory timings at 11-3-3-2.5 (Can run both Prime95 and 3dmark03 simultameously). At 210x11, or even 220x11 system willpost and boot to windows...however immediate fail in Prime 95...I just have a feeling that this machine can go higher if I knew what to do.
Voltage: cpu=1.75, memory=2.8, chipset=1.7....temps are 26 nd 45 under load
Any suggestions , or should I be happy with 2.2mhz?? (That's all I wanted at first, then the BUG bit!!!)
PS: 3dmark03=5633....any good?
OC now 2.3mhz (200x11.5) cpu=1.8, mem=2.9, chip=1.7...temps seem ok...26, 46.5 under load

Arty,
Welcome to the forum:wave: I do not know much about overclocking AMD's but i did notice your ram was cruical and i do not think they are known for good overclocking, so maybe it's your ram holding you back.

2.31ghz@1.7v is nice :) Definitely just leave the FSB around 200-210 depending on the multiplier, and pump the vcore up to 1.85-1.9v to see what it's got top end. Mine does 2.43ghz stable but needs the full 1.85v my board allows to get it, and since it runs 11.5x204@1.7v it's not worth the extra heat&voltage to run less than 100mhz more IMHO. Sounds like yours' tops out fast once you start raising the vcore too so 2.3xghz on 1.75v or less and 200-210 fsb is a good trade off. If your chipset cooling is up to it you could pump up the vdd and vDIMM, lower the timings to 3-3-3-8 and shoot for 220+fsb 2.3xghz.

Thanks Punisher...will be satisfied with 2.3 for a while...might need better memory than Crucial....rt

2.2-2.3 is pretty much the limit for Bartons. Keep in mind there isn't a Barton or T-Bred core CPU that's engineered to run over 2.2 Ghz. So, if you can get more than 2.2, consider yourself lucky.
I had mine running at 2.2 Ghz on default voltage for quite a while... I just recently upgraded my video card to an Aopen Aeolus FX5900 (also just noticed Aopen is one of the sponsors of the BleedinEdge!) which has that extra molex power connector. I believe this took some of the strain off my motherboard from my previous GF4 Ti4600, which allowed more stable voltage to the CPU, and now it's capable of 2.3 Ghz on 1.725 volts. The temperature increased almost 10% by raising the speed and voltage, but it wasn't causing instability, so I figured oh well =) BTW... the diode temp was about 58-60 C while running SETI@Home at 2.3 Ghz... up from 50-52 at 2.2 on 1.650 volts.
Another but...
I just got some Arctic Silver 5 and tried it out... it lower my temps a good amount... I also cleaned everything while I had everything out of the case, so that may have accounted for some of the temperature difference, however, everything else is the same, and with AS5, my Barton @ 2.3 Ghz on 1.725 volts runs 51-53 C... and yes, that is the diode temp. I did clean some dust out of the heatsink (not a significant amount, airflow was still more than adequate), so I'll say a 2 degree difference from that, which leaves about a 5 degree difference from the AS5.
Anyway, that's just my experience... Bartons seem to hit a wall at 2.2 Ghz at which point it requires a lot of voltage to increase the clock speed more. I probably won't have this CPU in 6 months, so the increased heat and voltage doesn't concern me, so I keep mine crunching SETI WU's at 2.3 Ghz =)

you are pretty much maxed.

Yeah, my 2500+ is about maxed at 200FSB it need too much volt to be stable at anything hight

Keep the temps down and give it more vcore. As long as the chip keeps its temps down you can pump up the vcore. the amd bartons will take a lot of vcore. I run at 2.1 vcore but I keep it very cool. I have always ran a AMD at at least 1.85 vcore on air.

You may have very well maxed that chip, can you tell me the stepping on the chip and perhaps I can tell you about the max as I have had many different ones my self, what kind of temps are you seeing both at idle and load? good temps are very important in a max overclock, also is that a desktop or mobile chip? I have gotten well into the mid 2700mhz on both my mobiles( Granted I watercool) but mid 2ghz is common with Mobiles.

Milkman, I think this thread is pretty much dead, and the original poster has moved on, 1st post was Oct. 2003 and the last was in May 04. :)
