is there much of a difference in these cards?
A noticable one I mean, for games.

Yes, the pro would be a good deal faster.

what if you overclocked it ;)

I have a AIW 9600 Pro. Overclocked to 499 core and 378 memory. I get over 14,000 score on 3DMark01 with a Prescott.
If anything make sure your memory is placed on the card in a L shape. These cards overclock better, so I believe.

In all honesty, I would save up the extra $50, that is if your buying, and buy a 9800Pro which can now be found for about $200.

I was just coming back to say the same thing. You could also try a softmod on a 9800SE, and turn it into a 9800Pro. Apparently many people have had good luck with this trick, no unlike the 9500>9700. On the other hand you could also softmod a 9800Pro into a 9800XT. In a few months I will be purchasing a 9800Pro & doing the softmod trick.

Pastry, if you read this, in a couple of months the x800LE or x300, something like that, will be released, so I would go with that choice rather than an 9800Pro.

Actually here's a good deal on a 9800Pro - OEM version by Sapphire - only $164. This place is OK, I've ordered from them myself:

And the OEM version is OK, I have one of them in my wife's system, and it is an excellent performer.

doesn't say if it's a 128 bit or 256 bit version though...

It is the 128 version, not the slowed down 256 one.

How do the 128bit versions compare to the 256bit versions?

Pastry, if you read this, in a couple of months the x800LE or x300, something like that, will be released, so I would go with that choice rather than an 9800Pro.

Very true, however, right now Sapphire Radeon X800pro 256MB GDDR3 is going for $609.00 CDN where as the Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR with the 256-bit DDR memory interface is $300 less. I have some OCZ thermal compound lying around, add a Vantec Copper cooler and some OCZ RAMsinks and I still be $250.00 cheaper w/taxes.
Personally, there is a fine line between good and better, and the $250.00 is that line for me. Also, what games can make use of the bigger/better video cards?

Here is link to message forums that deal a lot with the ATi line of video cards. I’m sure there will be something pertaining to the difference between the 128bit and 256bit 9800 video cards.
