View Full Version : Linksys WRV54G Wireless-G VPN Broadband Router
Guys,
Here is some shots of a new piece of equipment I am playing around with. This is the first release of Cisco aquiring Linksys.
Features:
An Internet connection-sharing Router, Switch, and Access Point with built-in VPN endpoint capability and advanced security features
Jump start your small business network by connecting both Wireless-G (802.11g) PCs, and local wired PCs
Securely connect up to 50 remote or traveling users to your office network via VPN
Advanced Security: Wireless data encryption (WEP), 802.1X authentication and authorization support, SPI Firewall and Internet Access filtering
This is a very sweet unit. I really do not like Wireless too much, but it does make sitting on the couch surfing the web enjoyable. ;) Plus the nice linksys A/B/G wireless card I have, 3 of my neighbors have wireless routers also w/ NO SECURITY. I definitly will be playing with them over the next few days. . . :D
I'll post some Settings from inside of this router later on, there is alot of new and configurable stuff in this unit. It looks like it can block anything.
1st: Problem/Annoyance
:(
I cannot seem to release a DHCP address from the router when the router is acting as a DHCP server. I'm going to look into this one. . . .
Also: Guys, if anyone is interested in this unit, let me know of any specifics you are looking for. I am specifically looking into the VPN aspects of this unit.
Enjoy. . . .

Hi guys, first off i am not a techy, so any help posted could it be in a non techy Jargon.
I am after a device that will convert a ethernet cable in a hotel room to wi-fi signal.
when i travel i only take a hand held and many hotels only have cable!
I am looking at the linksys wtr54gs. does anyone know if this will work with my hand helds os windows mobile 5.
Also i read that there is a one button press set up. But to use this function do i have to download software onto my HTC vario 11 and HTC MDA pro devices for this to operate.
If not, does this mean i would have to set it up by going into setup page? if so is this a one off, or every time i want to connect up.
