Hey guys, it's time to upgrade the sons old PIII 866. I'm looking for a decent AMD board under $100. Doesn’t have to be fancy (no OCing) but it does need on board LAN. ATX or Micro-ATX will work fine.

Somthing like this:

GigaBite GA-7S748 Link (http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-7S748-L.htm)
Biostar M7NCD Link (http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdetails.asp?model=m7ncd)

I don't know much about AMD boards so be gentle. :D

RH, the DFI boards have been getting consistently good reviews as have a couple of the Albatron boards. I know that's not much help but that's where I'd look first and then go from there...;):)

Thanks Mik, Tony,

That DFI board does look good, seems to be a lot of board for the price. Thats a good thing right :D

I think if I pick up a 2500 Barton for $85 and then slap a 128MB 9600 in there with it, it should keep the boy happy with most of the new games.

all and all I'm trying to stay under $300

Er, what about RAM? The RAM from the PIII system will not work. :(

I didn't forget about the ram, just didn't bother because it's not going to be OC'd, so I'll just go with the cheapest that will work.

I'm pretty sure anything I buy will be better then the 133 SDRAM thats in it now. ;) :D

Have a look at the Shuttle AN35N-Ultra as Newegg has it for 63$ shipped and I know a couple people who have it and love it :)

Thanks for the inputs guys :D

I'll have to shop around now :look:

Thinking about some crucial 2700, they've been a good buy in the past for stock systems.

Any thoughts?

Did you get a mb and proc yet? I might have a combo (Abit NF7-S revision 2 with Barton unlocked XP2500) for sell (and that includes a Zalman 6000Cu HSF).
