Well guys the last of my components to build my new rig should be here today  . In the month or so without my main rig and waiting for the funds to build this one I had a chance to mod my Antec 1000AMG. I cut out all my stock fan grills and sanded them down so the edges were smooth. I also cut a 120mm blowhole on top. Lined the hole with door edge molding mounted a 120mm led fan and placed a laser cut blade fan grill on top :D . I also cut a hole in the back of my mobo tray and also lined it with door edge molding. This will allow me to route my wires between the door panel and mobo tray so things can stay nice and neat and should have excellent air flow.
Ok now to say what this baby will consist of. The motherboard will be a DFI NF4 Ultra-D. I have already modded it to SLI so technically it is a NF4 SLI-D  . My proccesor is coming in today which is a A64 3200+ Venice core. Ram is OCZ 3200PE Rev2 TCCD. I tested it in my friends rig and it passed memtest at 7 x 315  . Video will be handled by a EVGA 6800GT and Nu Tech L921G 19" LCD. Sound provided by a Soundblaster AudigyII ZS and my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX speakers . Optical drives will be a Sony DVD Rom and a Nec 2500A(Bios flashed to a 2510 DL DVDR R). For hard drives I will have 2 Hitachi SataII's in a raid 0 configuration. I will have no backup drive for a bit but should be here soon. This will all be powered by a PC Power and Cooling 510 SLI. I can update how this thing OC's if you guys like. May be boring since these have been out for a while. If there is interest I can post though :D
I have most of the parts now. Today my proccessor, Vid card, 2 HDD's, and 120mm fan should come in.

Of course there's interest! A few benchies would be nice as well!
What're you using on the cpu cooling front?
I won't even ask about the PCP&Cooling thing - I thought you were looking OCZ520-600 - how about giving us your view, of the 510SLI? I rejected it as an option due to "noise" issues, but know its very good.

For cooling I will be using a ......Thermaltake Big Typhoon ;) Nice cooling and quiet. I may change the fan on it but I want to see how it performs on this AMD rig first.
As for the PCP&C and the resons I choose it. Mostly because it is sleeved and the price between it and the OCZ 600 were less that $10. I really wish OCZ would sleeve their PS line I would pay a few more $$ to have sleeving. The PCP&C is a nice supply. Very heavy 6 LBS. Not real flashy like the OCZ as it is painte flat black but definately quality looking. The sleeving is done real nicely though. :thumb:

Hmmm. How much was the P&C 510? Also I thought the OCZ 600 was sleeved with the shielded cables? BTW did you check out the noise factor of both?

The P&C 510 was $229 shipped anf the OCZ PS 600 was $221 shipped. Nope the OCZ is not fully sheilded. The modstream is though. I didn't check the noise of both. I am not that concerned with noise as long as it doesn't sound like a Tornado ;) . I will try to get a camera and get some pics for ya.

Whats wrong with hitachi's  :na: . They are one of the only mfg. with SATAII for the time being. Oh and did I mention they were cheap $60 for an 80 giger :D . I just finished building almost an identical rig for a bud and it was fast....but....does not compare in multitasking to my old 3.0C . Thats OK though next month I will have A64 X 2 4400 Then my rig will be smoking fast and multitask

The blowhole seems to work nicely. Before the blowhole if I closed my case temps went up 3-5 degrees. Now door on or off same temps  It also looks very nice with the fan grill. The other thing I did was cut the hole in the mobo tray and it really helped with the wire management of the case. Almost all my PSU leads go through that hole as do my IDE cables for my optical drive. I will get some pics though. Really a very easy mod to do exspecially if I was a guitar builder :rotflmao:  : :hide:

Wow Malinois
That sounds almost exactly like the rig I outlined in that other thread where I was looking for advice. Let's go head to head :na:
You know more about what you're doing so you'll win, but hey, it'll be fun. I just got done OCing my cousin's rig that I just built him (with slightly lower specs) to 2.5 with the ram limiting me. I guess my total of 1 week's worth of OC'ing of which I learned how to do mainly from these forums is enough to say I've got experience now :look:
I get the rest of the stuff tomorrow. Should be a great & fun learning experience. Besides that, maybe we can help each other out (although you'll probably be helping me out lol  )

Well, I could post pics once the rig gets up. No real case modding, but alot of cathodes and UV reactive stuff which is always a plus :)
I don't plan on chopping up the case or anything though considering it's a client's computer.
I guess I can post pics of my recently modded Antec P160. I added a window and 2 120mm's so I guess it has to do with mali's mod somewhat lol. It almost looks professional.
Anyway, before hijacking his thread, I think I'll let him post :)

Have you lowered the LDT (htt multiplier) to X3 yet? If not you will be hitting a very large brick wall!
How are your temperatures? You should have some room to raise the vcore more.

Yep I am at LDT x 3. Heard it was neglible so I keep it there.
CPU temps 41C
PWIC temps 46c
Chipset temps 46c
Temps taken after 10 hrs of prime. Running prime now at 8 x300 14 minutes no errors. So definately not ram limiting me. I tried 10 x 250 errors around the 25 minute mark with same timings :beat: May have to try more Vcore? What is safe on air for these Venice CPU's

drop your dividers to 133:200 or something and start upping the FSB till you find the max cpu at your max rated DDR Freq (which should be lower than what it maxes out at seeing as how your dividers are really low). Leave it at 1.4v for that and only boost voltage if you're having trouble posting.
Your venice shouldn't be requiring that much juice. I got 2.5 with the venice at stock. Many have gotten 2.8 at stock voltages. Don't zap your cpu if it's not necessary.
I'm not sure about the next paragraph's, but someone correct me if i'm wrong.
Also, that 1000Mhz HTT Bus speed wall that was referred to (regarding multi's) shoudln't be an issue on the DFI. The reason for that is that no one else but DFI supports over 1000Mhz for the HTT Bus speed. DFI supports 2000Mhz.
This allows you to use the a64's standard 1600Mhz/2000Mhz FSB at it's rated speed, not 1000Mhz like other board makers.
I'm at work so I don't have time to check on this, but it makes sense to me to assume it. :look:
glorfy
06-09-2005, 12:44 PM
DP - all X5htt motherboards are actually 2000MHz, as its a two way thing. It's generally referred to as just the one way speed of 1000MHz. However, my DFI MB allows me to get to 255X5htt(1275 one way or 2550 two way).
As for temperatures, this is just a personal preferrence, I don't like to see temperatures above 50C when running prime 95 - thats my rule (obviously not when I'm use phase change!).
There is some mileage in what Donkeypunch says, using a divider will make sure you don't stress the memory controller too much, so allow you to find CPU max.
Also make sure you try diferent bioses. 310p is my most successful, but your set up is quite different. Try 510-1. Generally its the -1 bioses you want to try as they're optimised for TCCD.
You may benefit from a fan on the PWMIC area, as your temps are warmer than when I pump 3.5v through mine (with cooling).
You are at nearly 25% O/C already! :thumb:

Update now priming at 255 x 10 had to up the Vcore to 1.648 :hide: Temps arent to bad CPU 45C. 20 minute into prime now. Think I just got a bad CPU :?: .....well not really bad but not good either. Or should I play with some setting to get prime stable at a lower Vcore?

thanks for clarifying that glorfy . I'm about to leave work and get my hands on the DFI and was actually wondering that seeing as how it appears twice as "capable" as a competing board.
So anyway, why is it that DFI has chosen to set their stuff up like that? I'd imagine it would only further confuse n00bs like myself (which it has). The fact that you got yours up to 2550 sounds amazing....sounds like a definate board benefit....
All the rest of the parts came into day a couple of hours ago. Now to set all this stuff up....getting antsy over here....I've only been at work for 3.5 hours and have just told everyone I was going to leave to build a computer because I don't want to wait.
"Can't you wait till tomorrow or something?"
"No, now."
"ok."
9 hours turned into 3.5 weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Love this job.

@Maliniois,
1.648 is pretty.... gosh darn... well ok.... to dang high for a Venice to be very happy for long. Especially on Air cooling. Try the CPU VID at 1.30V and 123% for special VID, that should give you about 1.57ish.

Might be worth trying some different bioses, Malinois1. If you do, clear cmos when (or after) you flash them. If not as you say you may have been unlucky with "only" a 25% Overclock on air!

Thanks for the tip but not sure if I want to change the bios since A64 x 2 will be out shortly. 5-10 is needed for x2, plus I dont plan to keep this thing that long. I have squeezed a couple of MHZ out of her though now at 9 x 278 = 2502. I am happy here and dont think it is worth the extra tweaking or voltage for the little more I will get. PS send me that prommie so I can see what this chip really has in it :p
