HarleyBro ... how'd you make out on the X600 vmods?

Hey Urylin still no luck on the vmods. Just got a new X600 128MB version this week. I tried throwin the 256MB card on DI. It didn't overclock well anyway but didn't see much of an improvement. I think I gotta pump some more voltage to the core to make use of the DI. I may just look into the x700 mods and copy them. Hope they will be the same. :D

... how it works sometimes :yup: ... Did you ever get to 3700 with the Dry Ice? You should be a pro at taking off the IHS now ... ever get a chance I'd like to see some pics and a how too ... sounds like you're having all the fun

No haven't had a chance on another run yet. Was plannin on it this weekend but will be stuck working all weekend well at least being at work. :mischeif: As for removing the IHS well this time around was my third try and first sucess lol. Here's a link to some pics on my first go at it. This time I re-installed the IHS after lapping it lol. Problem was the board for the cpu was nocked and sroted on the IHS when installed.
Feel free to shoot me a PM w/ any questions. :) BTW I have to post pics of my new card there. The mods will be similiar to the first one but... one of the 3 chips that are tested are differant.

Dang ... the lap looks sweet  got me thinking lol ... Which chip is diff? It has the same VDD and VDDQ as most other ATI PCB ISL6522b ... pins 5 & 7. So I would guess it's the Vcore reg that is diff? Can you look up the number off the chip and pull up the datasheet ... you may be able to go with a VID jumper or determine if it's using a divider you can change with a VR...

Posted pics and chip #'s on XS. It's actually a chip in one of the same spots lost when it comes to these. Botched up my first but had my second done by jason57 then I acidentially knocked a wire loose lol but repaired so as for chip details I am lost but once I find where to solder I should be ok. :)

Harley... the pic of the cards are the same except on yours you don't have the VDD chip... you should be able to use the 20k on pins 5 & 7 (or ground) on both ISL6522cb chips. The one on the right is the vcore and the one on the left is VDDQ acording to their pic... you have the LM63 temp chip and theirs doesn't .... so many dang variants now ... :coocoo:

Reposted w/ some readings. :) The temp. reading isn't standard? Forgot if my other cards had it.

Yea .. U91 is not populated on their pic for the temp chip ... I'd go with a 10k on the Vcore and a 20k on the VDDQ ....they show 20k on both ... you can go that way but a 10k on the vcore would be easier to dial in ... still not sure why they're not using a VDD chip ... I'll ask VJ about that one ... I'm gettin one of his new WB next week link (http://imageevent.com/marginjohn/viperjohn) ...

Yeah his waterblocks look nice just would be better if there was a pic going in more detail with them. I think I have a few 20K VR's so that's probably what I will wind up using. It looks like 5 to 7 for VGPU. As for the VDD it might be controlled by one reg. to hit VDD and VDDQ. Either that or there is a possibility of having another reg. on the front of the card. BTW I am havin fun with this X600. So far took #4 in 03 on second run. Still running the card air cooled and an abused OS install. :D Once I do a fresh install and tweak I may get closer to #1 still on air. Once the mods are done then maybe a pelt. and waterblock. Last step DI lol. Well better run so I can leave work and go play more. ;) I have a feeling I will take 01 today for the X600.

Here's 01 with my older card worse clocks and am still holding #3 since the #1 appears bugged :D

Yep ... Pin 5 is FB and 7 is ground ... The number 1 score does seem to be a bit Higher :suspect: ... Good luck on the run :thumb:

Hey thanks yeah and the first one being at just over 2400mhz. when 01 is so heaily dependant on the cpu either that or total ATI LOD tweak and watched it on a black screen. :mischeif: Well I'll try and get the vgpu mod done today at least that should give me some extra power for goin to water. :D

Well a little bump to vgpu after the mod gave me a few more mhz. Still runnin on air now #3 in 03. 01 I had a great run but didn't save due to a lower score my car low was almost 50fps lower then another run (all other scores where close to the same or better) and couldn't get it to rise. Ran about 5-6 times but it was after midnight so I'll maybe hit it today.

So 14mhz got you close to 100 more marks .... what's the vcore now? Stil not to shappy for a X600 though ... :yup:
harleybro
06-27-2005, 08:36 AM
Well didn't measure the vcore. On the cpu I bumped it up I think from 262 to 263 my ram is capable of 264. On the vgpu I pushed it up 1 1/2 turns on I think a 20K/20turn vr. Still keep it staying below 45c underload. I am using a zallman passive heatpipe heatsink w/ a 120mm fan in front of it. If I rest it one on top I think I can push my mem a little further. I may throw the waterblock on tonight and give it a good push along w/ modding my bolts so I can also mount a 80W TEC. ;) Although I should reload my OS first a nice clean HD. :)

Remember you can check vcore on pin 8 of the ISL6522 .... hehe throw the tec on that puppy ....... :wpleased:

Thanks for your help urlyin. As for the tec well I am looking more forward to dice. :mischeif: I finished the mods tonight by soldering on the molex for voltage readings. I may go for air once more now that I can readings easier but by the end of the week I plan to get some tec scores up. :)

Np Harley ... most of it was already worked out for us ... hey if you get a chance check out this link (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=3401) for some ideas and to post a pic of your vmod ... you'd be the first x600 :thumb: Would the Blue Zalman HP-D80 fit that card?

06-28-2005, 02:33 AM
Heay I'll shoot a post over there just registered :) I'll make a new thread since ya have that one listed as x8x0 mods. Here's the cooler I use now. ZM80A-HP (http://www.zalmanusa.com/usa/product/view.asp?idx=5&code=013) Just watchin the video I never put thermal paste on the heatpipes lol. I actually wanted something other than stock and it was the only cooler avail. locally. I put a 120mm fan standing on the slots right next to it and rest a 120mm across the top on the 2 plates. I think it got me about 50mhz. over the stock fan.

Haven't seen that one .. I used the dual heatpipe one .... it did okay but if you get the option fan that mounts on top it cools alot better, I know you have a fan sitting on it I'm sure it does as good of a job ... the trick on the heat pipe paste on the outside plates is to use a q-tip ... lay a thin bead with the paste and use the q-tip to spread it along the channel, you also want to stay about 3/4" from both ends so when you put it back together the paste doesn't squeeze out the ends ... it can be a messy son of a bisket if you're not careful ... you can post in that thread...I just wanted to make a vmod collection .... was using it as a pointer for the article on the x8?00 series .... so many different ways to skin that cat ... just thought some pics of the way others had done theirs would make for a good show and tell...

Well finally got it rockin better. Have #1 in 01 once I can submit scores. #2 in 03. In my 03 I am still runnin air. Workin on reloadin drives. Have the card benchin 01 @ 690/480  and can probabley do more before I use the pelt. :) Also can't catch a good CL. My mid 19k run had CL up around 273 or so. :|
